Topic:  “How One Neighborhood Street Evolved”

Where/Directions:  Begins with a PowerPoint presentation in the Fellowship Hall at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Ave.  Enter at the rear of the church; signs will be posted; please park on the surrounding streets. A Tour Follows.

Presentation—9:30 am to Noon : Tim Scanlon’s presentation will describe the evolution of  North Corona Street.  A tour afterwards will focus on examples of  architecture and other man-made features that identify this historic  neighborhood and reflect a period in Colorado Springs history.  Included   are a visit to a historic bungalow and a stop at the home of Fannie Mae  Duncan, entrepreneur & owner of the Cotton Club, once an iconic jazz venue.

Presenter: Tim Scanlon, a local historian and consultant.

Extension: We will meet for an optional Q&A (on your own) afterwards. Location TBA.

Topic:  “An Expanded National Register Historic Dictrict”

When:  Saturday, May 27, 2017, 9:30 to Noon  the historic and architectural significance of this addition and why it qualifies  for the National Register.  The tour will emphasize the presentation, by  visiting architectural examples and hearing additional stories.

Description:   Developed in 1910 by the Colorado Springs Company, the  Valley Park Addition was added to the North End National Register Historic  District in September 2015.  Tim’s PowerPoint presentation will highlight

Bicycle Event: "These Places Matter”

Pedal Through History Along the Legacy Loop

A Bike Colorado Springs, HPA, & ONEN collaboration & Bike Colorado Springs sponsored tour.

Where:  Monday, May 29, 2017. Event begins at 11:00 am and concludes at 2:00 pm.

Description:   Bicyclists will meet at the Chadbourn Spanish Gospel Mission in  America the Beautiful Park, where the tour begins & continues into ONEN.   There will be 8 short stops to highlight other historic places along the way.  The tour ends at the Tasty Freeze on N. Weber Street. (On your own.)
