About Our 2018 Summer Tours

The Historic Preservation Alliance of Colorado Springs (HPA) provides leadership, education and advocacy to celebrate and save our diverse historic heritage and to revitalize our neighborhoods. We invite you to participate in this network of citizens who care about Colorado Springs, its past and its future.

A highlight of our calendar year is our Summer Historic Tours held in July and August. Paid members can attend the summer tours and many other events, such as our highly acclaimed lecture series and May Preservation Month tours and events – all included in the membership. Guests may attend for a fee of $10 for each event, payable in cash or check. We are unable to take credit cards onsite at this time.

If you are NOT a current member, we encourage you to renew or join now.  Our membership benefits are extensive, plus you’re supporting our shared mission!  It’s easy and secure online, and categories range for all income levels.  Please carefully read the list of tours in the accompanying packet. Three tours warrant special attention: Registration forms are included in this mailing. You can also join, renew or pay for registration on our website at www.hpasprings.org. Our membership has grown tremendously and we have exceeded 100 persons at some of our tours. Not all tour sites can accommodate such a large group due to fire codes, space restrictions or the inability to divide into smaller groups under multiple tour guides.

Please carefully read the description of each tour. Three tours warrant special attention:

  • On July 14 we will tour the Chico Basin Ranch – ON A SATURDAY. Also because of the 45-minute
    drive, we highly encourage car-pooling.
  • On July 19 we must pay a small entrance fee to tour the Western Museum of Mining and Industry,
due at registration that evening. See the accompanying writeup for fee structure. There is no
limitation on number of people allowed to attend.
  • The tour of the Museum and Historic District at Peterson AFB on August 9 requires RSVPs in order to
enter the military installation. If you are not on the RSVP list, you will not be admitted to this one.
Your information MUST be submitted by July 26. Also note this tour begins at 6:00 rather than 6:30.

Please note the start times for each tour. Registrations begin ONE-HALF HOUR PRIOR TO TOUR TIME. Tours MUST begin on time. Remember that Colorado summer evenings are unpredictable so come prepared with light jacket, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, water, small flashlight and umbrella. Please – no pets!
