Summer Tours 2018!
From Starsmore to the Mining Museum and from historic commercial districts of Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City to Chico Basin Ranch (on a Saturday!), the HPA is thrilled to present a diverse line up of fascinating historic places throughout the Pikes Peak region this summer. Comfortable walking shoes, layers, rain gear and cameras are always recommended. (A small flashlight is even recommended for later evening tours.)
August 9 at 6:00 PM – Peterson AFB Museum
NOTE: This tour begins at 6:00. Only those who are on the RSVP list are allowed on base. To be on the list please submit the following information: Last name, first name, middle Initial, Date of Birth, Driver’s License Number, and which state issued the License. The RSVP must be emailed to Ron Harman at firstname.lastname@example.org by July 26 in order to provide it to Peterson AFB Security. There can be no substitutions after the list is submitted. This is a tour of the Museum and Historic District located on Peterson Air Force Base, therefore absolutely no firearms or other weapons are allowed on base.
Address/ Parking: 150 East Ent Avenue. We encourage members to carpool. From South Powers Boulevard, turn east at Airport Road, wind around then turn right onto Stewart Avenue. Stop at the West Gate to check in. The driver of the vehicle MUST have their driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance. All passengers must have a government issued photo ID (state driver’s license, passport, military ID). Minors under 18 do not need photo IDs. After checking in at the gate, continue on Stewart Avenue to the intersection with Peterson Boulevard, turn right (south) onto Peterson Blvd, then turn left at Ent Ave. Parking is available in front of the museum. Registration begins at 5:30, tour is at 6:00 at the Museum.
The Museum is located right in the center of an 8.3 – acre historic district. The original passenger terminal is an Art Deco treasure. The City hangar and Broadmoor hangar have extensive exhibit displays. The award-winning airpark features well restored aircraft and missiles of the Cold War era.
