Summer Tours 2018!
From Starsmore to the Mining Museum and from historic commercial districts of Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City to Chico Basin Ranch (on a Saturday!), the HPA is thrilled to present a diverse line up of fascinating historic places throughout the Pikes Peak region this summer. Comfortable walking shoes, layers, rain gear and cameras are always recommended. (A small flashlight is even recommended for later evening tours.)
July 26 at 6:30 PM – Maguireville
Address/ Directions: 18110 Knollwood Boulevard, Monument, CO 80132. From I-25 take Exit 161. At the first light, turn Right onto State Highway 105 heading east. At the top of the hill, at the light, turn Left onto Knollwood. Then take an immediate Left into the Maguire’s dirt drive. Parking is available along the entrance drive in the field to the right and diagonally on the left in front of the main house.
You are in for a treat. Jim and Donna Maguire’s extensive collection of antiques and vintage memorabilia is displayed in the two large barns. Former horse stalls contain themed rooms, including a bakery/kitchen, a doctor’s/dentist’s/barber’s office, and an “ice room” based on local Monument history. There are many old vehicles and tools/equipment to take a closer look at. The rest of the property hosts a re-created gold mine shaft, a log schoolhouse and a teepee, among others. This extensive, immersive experience is not usually open to the public. A group introduction will include entertaining details provided by the personable Mr. Maguire in the main barn. Then guests may take self-guided tours to explore the many nooks and crannies of the space. Mr. Maguire will remain available on site for questions and stories.
