SUMMARY:Summer Tour #2:  Colorado Springs City Auditorium
DESCRIPTION:This tour gives us an up close and personal exploration of the Auditorium’s historic features which include the signature cartouche bearing the inscription “USUI CIVIUM DECORI URBIS” which translates to “For the Use of the People and the Glory of the City”.\nWe’ll tour the two 1935 WPA era murals in the entry by Archie Musick and Tabor Utley and the relocated grand 1928 Mighty Wurlitzer from the famed Burns Theater before its destruction. We’ll see the arched proscenium with plaster lattice that hides the 640 pipes of the organ. The various rooms\, the stage and other fascinating bits of architecture will be investigated. The tour will conclude with a presentation by the Colorado Springs Community Cultural Collective describing their vision for the repurposing of the auditorium. \nSign in begins at 6:00 pm. \n___________________________ \nHPA Coordinator: Tim Boddington There are steps and some dim lighting at times. \n___________________________ \nDirections: There is paid parking on Kiowa\, Weber\, Pikes Peak and Nevada.
