History of Colorado Springs Fire Department

July 27th at 6:30 pm

ADDRESS: Tour Begins at 29 South Institute Street (directly east of the former St Francis Hospital). Turn south at Pikes Peak Ave and park along the street.

The second venue is at the Fire Operations Center, 375 Printers Parkway, approximately one mile east.

PARKING: Park along the street on South Institute. There is a parking lot at the Printers Parkway location.

TOUR GUIDES: Roy Manuszak, President of the Dr. Lester Williams Fire Museum.  He is a retired Fire Battalion Chief, serving from 1971 to 2006, and has been a local resident since 1960.

THE TOUR: Our tour begins at an old fire station on Institute Street.  This station once used horses, then adapted to motorized fire apparatus until the station was decommissioned.  It is now home to the ‘informal’ portion of the main museum, housing photos, artifacts and collections.

We then drive to the Fire Ops Center on Printers Parkway.  This is the formal fire museum, founded by a former department Doctor, Lester Williams and named in his honor.  After the tour, you will be able to browse the gift shop.  All purchases (cash or check only please) go to the non-profit museum.

Although not included in this tour, you are encouraged to visit the Fire Fighters Memorial on the corner of Pikes Peak and Hancock Parkway, in Memorial Park.
