Tour #5 – Colorado Springs Day Nursery
This Tour is sold out. Please go to “Register” and choose from the Member and Non-Member waitlists. Members will have waitlist priority.
Check in is at 6:15 pm in the lobby of the clubhouse.
Tour starts at 6:30 pm in the room next to the lobby and will run approximately 1 hour.
(no entering the building until approximately 6:15 to allow the children to leave the building)
75 Guests max will be allowed to attend this tour.
The week of the Tour, any remaining spots will be assigned and if you’re on the waitlist, you will receive an email letting you know you can attend. Please confirm you’re going to attend and as a non-member a $10 donation needs to be made at the check in table on arrival to the tour.
The Colorado Springs Day Nursery Association was founded in 1897 by 14 women. Alice Bemis Taylor was one of the founders of the day care center. Alice funded the construction of the Colorado Springs Day Nursery building in memory of her mother, Alice Cogswell Bemis. On Christmas 1923, the new Tudor building was opened. It was then called the Colorado Springs Day Nursery. The building construction cost was $262,040.
The tour covers three floors of historic architecture, art murals, fantastic millwork, and beautifully restored leaded glass windows.

Directions: Go south on S Nevada to Rio Grande Street and turn Right. The Nursery will be on the corner of Tejon and Rio Grande.
Parking:Parking is available metered on the street. There is also about twenty spaces available on the south side of Rio Grande across from the Day Nursery reserved for Early Connections.
Disabled Access: The tour is not ADA compliant. There are no elevators or ramps.
