This year’s Annual HPA Meeting was another success. Jose Antonio Arellano teaches English at the Air Force Academy. He focused on the history of the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center’s Permanent Collection, specifically its focus on Southwestern Art created by New Mexicans, as well as the New Mexican influence on the building’s architecture. There are fascinating connections between Santa Fe and Colorado Springs through the story of Alice Bemis Taylor and the architect John Gaw Meem. The lecture was driven by images and drew from Mr. Arellano’s archival research of the FAC’s collections and the Special Collection archives of UT San Antonio.
