Established in 1894, Fairview Cemetery is owned by the city of Colorado Springs. Although it was designated as a cemetery for area pioneers, there were earlier burials on the land. Cemetery land was donated in exchange for water rights by Anthony Bott who founded Old Colorado City as a supply town for gold prospectors. Bott himself is buried in the cemetery as are such notables as “Madam” Laura Bell McDaniel, Civil War veterans, gold prospectors, saloon keepers and 15,000 other souls.
