7th Summer Tour: Fairview Cemetary

August 24, 2023

Check in at 5:30 pm. Tours start when the first twenty are checked in.

The tour is approximately two hours.

There is a cost of $10 for this tour. Cash or checks made payable to the Old Colorado City Historical Society are accepted.

Established in 1894, Fairview Cemetery is owned by the city of Colorado Springs. Although it was designated as a cemetery for area pioneers, there were earlier burials on the land. Cemetery land was donated in exchange for water rights by Anthony Bott who founded Old Colorado City as a supply town for gold prospectors. Bott himself is buried in the cemetery as are such notables as “Madam” Laura Bell McDaniel, Civil War veterans, gold prospectors, saloon keepers and 15,000 other souls.

The Colorado City Historical Society is hosting this tour. The Society exists to encourage research, to preserve and keep alive the unique history, culture and spirit of West Side Colorado Springs.

The Society operates the Old Colorado City History Center located at One South 24th St. You will be learning the history of Old Colorado City from the citizens of yesteryear as they rise from their graves to tell you their story.

Address/Directions: 1000 South 26th St. Heading west on Colorado Ave. turn south onto 26th St. The main entrance is on 26th St. and Ehrich St. Parking is available along the road next to the entrance. Please park facing or backing into the fence line outside the cemetery.

Disabled Access: Roads within the cemetery are slightly rough but can accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. The ground around the gravesites is generally flat.

Bathrooms: Port-a-potty will be available
